Marionette Puppets
Below you'll find our selection of marionettes, all of which can be purchased online or over the phone. Kallini puppets are busy building our own brand of marionettes in the Kallini Puppet workshop and these should be available on this site shortly with wholesale marionettes also available.
In ancient times marionettes were used in parts of the world as a way of telling country folk in remote villages what was going on and as a way of passing information on to those close to you without actually having to do it yourself. Marionettes are known to have appeared by at least the 15th century and in those days often held a higher status than the pupeteers.
Today, marionettes come in many different forms and guises and are made all over the world. One of the most well known centres of production is of course the Czech Republic, with the capital, Prague, heaving with puppet shops on almost corner. Well worth a visit for any budding puppeteer is the Prague puppet festival usually held the first week of June.
String puppets are loved by children and adult performers alike and after a little practice will soon be putting on delightful little shows to thrill their audience. They make an unusual gift idea with children usually delighted to receive a string puppet for their birthday or Christmas.
