BASIC DUMMY SPEC: HEAD Our standard ventriloquist dummy head measures 8 inches from top of head (excluding hairpiece and headwear) to base of neck. The head is made from a strong but lightweight resin and cast in three sections. The back section can be detached easily to allow access to the working parts if necessary. The dummy head is connected to a wooden control stick, which is hidden inside the body section and used to turn the head from left to right and to open and close the mouth. It is also used to control any upgrade such as eye movement and eyebrows etc. Each head is individually hand painted and blended with four coats of enamel to give a wonderful smooth and life-like complexion so each head will vary slightly in appearance. MOVING EYES Our dummy comes with moving eyes as standard so you are able to move the eyes either left or right making the puppet almost come alive. The eye movement is operated with your thumb allowing your first finger to operate the mouth. So, with just a little practise you can work both the mouth and eyes simultaneously. MOUTHPIECE The mouth is made from resin and operated with your first finger using a trigger mechanism attached to the control stick. It is easy to produce a life-like mouth movement, with a little practise, which is in sink with your own voice. When the mouth is open it reveals a set of lower teeth and tongue. HANDS Our dummy hands are very realistic and cast in a lightweight resin and individually hand painted. They are attached to a fabric sleeve arm, which is filled with a soft fibre material. BODY Our vent dummy bodies are made from fibreglass and have a soft leather neck rest, which allows the head to sit and turn easily. The body is hollow to allow the performer’s arm to enter from the back and using the control stick brings the dummy to life. LEGS Our boy dummy's legs are made from cotton fabric and filled with a soft fibre material. The shoes are easily detachable if necessary. Legs for the girl dummy are sculpted from modelling foam which give them shape and form but remain light. Each leg is able to bend at the knee to allow the girl dummy to sit. To complete the legs they are fitted with either tights or socks. INSIDE THE HEAD Most of the mechanical parts inside the head are made from brass to give years of trouble free service. To access the inner workings all you need to do is remove the hairpiece, unscrew two screws and remove the back section. |
